American Idol I don’t care about American Idol. But a lot of people do –to the tune of 578 million votes cast in the singing contest during the course of last year’s show alone. Many more people tried to cast their lot via the call-in polling system, but were blocked by frequent busy signals. It’s left fans aggravated and raised questions as to whether the contest is violating federal laws regarding game shows.
